152. The Shape of Shadows

Shadows are everywhere: they can cloak the landscape (or shroud it, depending on your style!), hover in corners and sneak through doorways, they can be tiny or big, internal or external.

For this prompt, perhaps consider where these shadows come from; do they stretch across the landscape or are they tucked neatly beneath the moss in the crevices of the tree bark, as in the image? Perhaps it’s the shadow that the full moon casts over the water, creating glimmering patches of light on its surface.

Some ideas to get you started…

🌿 How do they shadows ‘behave’? Do they dance, weave, creep?
🌿 What ‘kind’ of shadows are they? E.g. faint, dark, comforting or foreboding?
🌿 What time of the day do they appear and how does this affect their shape?
🌿 Perhaps the appearance of the shadows allows the sun to carve a path…Remember that shadows only exist because of the light.

Let me know how you get on with this one!

Happy writing! Helen x
